I set up Silver Films Ltd in Manchester in 1996. My early work was within the games industry and included producing TV and cinema commercials, promos and live events including the international launch of Tomb Raider III with Johnathon Ross and Nell MacAndrew, the launch film of Omikron with David Bowie shot on 8mm in Paris and the European launch of Need for Speed with Jamiroquai in Paris, Berlin and London.
In 2000 I decided to test the film market by producing short films. After securing equity investment via the Business Angel Network, together with industry matched funding and sponsorship deals, I produced five short films and won a multitude of awards including a BAFTA in 2001 for the internationally renowned short, About A Girl. I received a further BAFTA nominated in 2003 for Talking With Angels.
Commercials Director, Richard Oliver, joined Silver Films in 2006. As well as developing feature film projects, we created and produced content for prestigious luxury car brands such as Lexus and Toyota, and secured very successful long term relationships with the Toyota Motor Company.
Our mantra then was to shoot cars to feed the bank and to make short films to feed the soul. During this time, a percentage of company profits were spent on the production of another social short film called Gardens With Red Roses. This film was gifted to Action For Elder Abuse and they continue to use this powerful film as a tool to raise awareness and funding and help change policy.
After 16 wonderful years of film making we closed the company in 2012 and I embarked on a whole new adventure.
